Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832) arbeitete am Faust-Stoff von seinem 24. Lebensjahr bis zu seinem Tod. Er benutzte verschiedene Quellen wie die Volksbücher zur Faustsage aus dem 16. Jahrhundert und die Puppenspiele vom Doktor Faust, verwandelte diese Quellen aber in zwei Dramen, die weit über alle Vorlagen hinausgehen. Goethe interessierte Faust als Suchender nach Erkenntnis, auf der Suche nach dem Zusammenhang zwischen Mensch, Natur und Gott. Der erste Teil des Faust wurde 1808 gedruckt, der zweite Teil vom Autor versiegelt und für eine Veröffentlichung nach seinem Tod bestimmt… [Mehr..]

Maxim Kantor is a Russian painter, writer, essayist and art historian. He graduated from the Moscow State University of Printing Art and is a member of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts.  He lives and works on Ile de Ré (France), Berlin and Oxford.
Faust 2018 is one of his “livres d’artiste” productions; the livres d’artiste will also be on show.
In February 2018 he was a Visiting Fellow of  IWM’s program Russia in Global Dialogue.
